Anthony Venn-Brown helps reconcile Religion and Sexuality

Anthony Venn-Brown spent the first 40 years of his life as a married father of two and an evangelist preacher for the Assemblies of God Church. Then he realised he could no longer hide from his true self. He confessed and came out, and the results of that confession took him on a journey that made him who he is today. Anthony has been recognised by gay website http://www.samesame.com.au/ for his contribution to the GLBTI community in their 2009 25 Most Influential Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Individuals.

Anthony has written a book titled "A Life of Unlearning" and is the Co-founder and Convener of Freedom 2 b[e]. The group aims to provide a place to assist LGBT people from Christian backgrounds on their journey to reconcile their faith and sexuality.

Still Going Crazy For Thea Gill

The last time this lady was inducted into The Hump Day Crew, she was residing in a RIVERWORLD, solving MURDER AMONGST FRIENDS in THE STRANGE WORLD OF DJ COSMIC.

She may be HARMONY'S HALLOWEEN HAUNT but she cast a spell on us to make us QUEER AS FOLK and spread THE PUTT PUTT SYNDROME which is probably why Thee Hump Day Crew is still going CRAZY for Thea Gill.

We last spoke to Thea in The Hump Day Crew's Queer As Folk Gay May Special, and since then, it seems Ms Gill has been quite the busy lady!

She's featured The Putt Putt Syndrome and has just wrapped up a film called The Boy She Met Online. Recently, Gill starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt in the hit series,"Ghost Whisperer."

We can also look forward to seeing Thea Gill return to our television screens this Summer - Channel 9's Digital Channel - "Go" is airing the series
Dante's Cove, which stars not only Gill, but another of the HDC's guests - Jill Bennett.

And if we thought the small screen wasn't enough to see her in, we Aussies also have to look
forward to is a film that is coming to our shores next year. It features not only 80% of some on Australia's best actors including Ian Bishop, Alan Fletcher and Rhonda Birchmore but has Thea singing a version of "Crazy," on the Soundtrack.

HDC Global Community: Club Skirts - The Dinah

It's the biggest all girls party in the world - and it's turning 20 next year! With an astounding A-List of guests who attend the annual event; some of which include Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls and Katy Perry, Club Skirts - The Dinah epitomizes the diversity that our community is all about.

Run by Club Skirts CEO, Mariah Hanson - the weekend generally attracts over 10,000 women from all across the world. However, given the reputation us Aussies have on knowing how to party, I think it's time we proved and upheld the title that is rightfully ours and jet over to Palm Springs next year.

Setting a high predicent with Lady Gaga and Pussycat Dolls, we can only wonder what Hanson has up her sleeves for next year's big bash. A few hints are dropped with her chat with Ginni from The Hump Day Crew about what's in store next year.

Stay tuned for more updates on The Hump Day Crew.

The Hump Day Crew leave radio...to become cake decorators?

One of the biggest fund raisers for Melbourne's Pride March is the annual Cake Raffle. Each year the community turns to the kitchen to create baked masterpieces. These are then raffled off to raise money for the coordination funds needed for March during the Pride Festival.
In the spirit of the event, the Hump Day Crew decided to have a shot at decorating a couple of cakes during their show. How much did their 2 cakes fetch at auction? $500!!!! Someone must have been hungry. I think they will have to stay on the radio for now. You be the judge:

Special Host - Carl Riseley on The Hump Day Crew

Australia's answer to Harry Connick Jnr. is Carl Riseley...crooning and romancing the Australian audience with is jazzy tunes and smooth voice.

When you think of a jazz lifestyle you imagine late nights, dark and smokey rooms where people can chill and seduce...not the bright awakenings of the early morning sun as it crashes through the windows of a radio station perched amongst the skyscrapers of Melbourne, people rushing from the beds to showers to cars and trains, coffee and breakfast in hand. However this week Carl dragged himself out of bed to join the Hump Day Crew as a guest host.

Getting over the Summer Hump

With Summer just around the corner, it is very tempting to cut corners when it comes to weight loss to ensure we have that toned beach body to fit into our swimwear. Celebrities all over the world take on certain diets including the lemon detox diet, low carb diets and Chris Gregoriou from Joy Sponsor Metro Body Fitness talks of the dangers of fad diets and how to ensure that progressive weight loss is healthier for the body.

Our bodies require fuel through nutrients certain food types provide in order to keep functioning. Shocking our body and depriving it of certain food types can have the reverse effect.
Download Chris' advice here.

Look Out for Cassie Davis

G: Our next guest...

James Johnston - Australian Idol 2009

On Sunday he ran out of ways on HOW TO SAVE A LIFE as he fell from Idol contention like DROPS OF JUPITER.
His song choice got MORE THAN WORDS from the judges but WHO KNEW that Australia would take MERCY on him, keeping him in till the Top 3.
It was probably because he gave them a FEVER and they felt THE POWER OF LOVE as we watched him LEARN TO FLY.
But now all we can do is say THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES and assure him he won’t have to USE SOMEBODY because with his talent YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE
Please HOLD THE LINE and lock up your DAUGHTERS.... before they succumb to a CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE and find out THIS IS HOW A HEART BREAKS.
Hello James Johnston.

Throughout the series the judges constantly discussed James' youth and song selection telling him he needed to choose songs that fitted his age. However if you close your eyes and listen to him sing, the only thing that grabs your attention is the quality of his voice...not his age.

You be the judge:

As he takes time to talk to the Hump Day Crew since WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS..Good Morning Nathan Brake.

Nathan Brake brought colour and his sense of showmanship to this year's Idol. One moment which stood out during the series is when judge Dicko confronted Nathan telling him that he was quite "camp" back stage and he needed to bring his true self on to the stage. After this Nathan shone brighter and bright each week.

HDC Global Community - Tobias Holfelt discusses changes allowing Swedish Gays to marry inside churches.

The Swedish Church has voted yes to gender-neutral marriage-ceremonies. The national church-council voted with the numbers 178 yes and 68 against. Before this historic vote it was possible to get partnerships blessed but a formal wedding as not accepted. About 80% of the Swedish population is a member of the Swedish church (even if the vast majority only attend
services twice in a life-time), and all their churches are now open for proper gay-marriages. Individual priests can still choose not to wed same-sex couples but every congregation has the obligation to provide someone who will.

As a background Swedish parliament voted yes to gender-neutral marriages which became law 1st May, 2009, replacing their old partnership-laws. Since marriage is considered a judicial term, and not a religious, it also comes under the non-discriminatory act. The result is that any congregation that would not allow anyone who wanted to get married, would loose their legal marriage licence.

Click here as the Hump Day Crew cross to Sweden to discuss the changes with Scandinavian IGLTA representative, Tobias Holfelt.

Kim Cooper - Australian Idol 2009

You’re listening to the Hump Day Crew and whether you are WAKING UP IN VEGAS, Paris or Melbourne, it’s time to add to our Idol FAMILY PORTRAIT with an individual who can do more than JUST DANCE.

With a sincere and endearing energy I must admit I nearly left THE MAN I LOVE and flew to Sydney to tell her I WANT YOU TO WANT ME. However soon I would imagine that I would be disappointed…complaining that YOU KEEP ME HANGING ON for the BEST OF YOU..so I’ll settle for 5 minutes of her magic right now. Good Morning to the gorgeous Kim Cooper.

Kim Cooper stood out as a true professional in this season's Idol. She was articulate when interviewed on the show, gave us touching moments of emotion and was honest about her past and family life. This was very refreshing as every other contestant seemed to have had a family life that was all sunshine and lollipops, a life style unfamiliar to some of us.

HDC Global Community - Bertho Makso talks Gay Lebanon

Homosexuality remains a crime in Lebanon, but the country is unusual and unique among Arab-majority nations in that it has a small internal gay rights movement. This is leading to a gay life in places like Beirut which are quietly flourishing.

Lebanon may not be somewhere that first springs to mind when you are planning your next holiday but after a chat with Bertho Makso you may think differently. It's sound like a safe and inviting place that is finding new life without loosing it's traditions and culture. Travelling can open up your eyes, and your mind, to new people, new ways of living and you ways of thinking. If this is what travel means to you then maybe you should consider a trip to Lebanon.

HDC Global Community - Perth Fairday

Perth is one of the most isolated metropolitan areas on earth. The nearest city to Perth with a population over one million is Adelaide in South Australia, which is 2,104 kilometres (1,307 mi) away. Perth is geographically closer to Dili (East Timor), Singapore and Jakarta (Indonesia), than it is to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

So surely their gay way of life may be a little unique?

Fairday is an event that marks the start of Perth Pride Month with our entire community coming together to celebrate in a relaxed and festive setting that enables businesses, community groups and government agencies to interact through stalls, events and ongoing entertainment.

Live bands, cabaret singers, and dancers keep the crowds entertained throughout the day. Families can picnic on the lawn beneath the shade of the Russell Square trees. There's usually activities for the kids, such as bouncey castles or petting zoos. And of course, the perennial crowd favourite - the Dog Show.

Sounds pretty normal.

James Findlay and Molly Whelan from Victoria's Midsumma travelled to Perth to promote our Victoria's own pride month.

Click here to listen as James, Molly and some locals chat with Adz.

Cory Lee - Turning the Naughty On

It is quite unique to come across a singer, actress or dancer that is truly talented in their specific field. Introducing Canadian singer, songwriter, dancer and actress - Cory Lee, and because she wears four hats, that would technically make her more than a triple threat.

The half German, half Chinese singer kicked started her career with her flagship track, "The Naughty Song," which captured the hearts of the lesbian community in particular as it was featured in season 3 of The L Word spun by the luscious Carmen De La Pica Morales. Following the launch of that single came her debut album, "What A Difference A Day Makes," which lead her to win the Indie Music Award for Pop Artist Of The Year and 2 Canadian Radio Music Awards.

The Naughty Song

Lee has also featured in several films and television series including Saw V and Being Erica. Alongside her work in film and tv, Cory's second album "Sinful Innocence," saw her team up with 3 time Juno award winner Perry Alexander (Shawn Desman) and KUYA (Nelly, Mase) which explores the good girl/bad girl double standard.

Now, on the brink of releasing a new album early next year, we are able to witness the darker, deeper and "dancier," side of Cory Lee.

Cory drops by The Hump Day Crew and lets us know just how cool Vanilla Ice still is after supporting him, her love for making old ladies irrate and we learn that she is quite the master prank caller.

Soul: The actuating cause of an individual life

As Hump Day Health and Healing focuses on looking after the most important person in your life: you, it is all well to exercise, eat well and to ensure you have a clear mind and energetic body to get you through life's humps and challenges.

As important as it is to look after your body and mind and ensure it receives the right amount of attention, sometimes we forget to nuture and coax the most important and integral part of our existence: our soul.

Tarot Reader - Jo Lanning talks of how important it is to look after the soul in ensuring we are surrounded by positive energies and making sure we actually connect with the most important part of our soul - our spirit, as it encompasses who we are.

Our Adz got his cards read live to air and below are the cards the universe chose for him - click here to listen to what is in store for his future.

Jo can be heard on Joy 94.9 on AEDST Saturdays 2pm for the new show, "Soul Shift."

The Importance Of Eating Breakfast

There was a reason why our parents constantly nagged us during our childhood about eating breakfast before they sent us off to school, drumming into our ears that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."

An average adult sleeps between 5 - 8 hours a night, consuming their last meal at least 2 - 3 hours the night prior. Therefore, each morning when we awake, it would mean our body is deprived of food for up to 10 hours. A hearty breakfast, ensure that our body starts with the fuel it needs to carry us through our day, and also to kick start our metabolism, which is at it's slowest in the morning. The quicker the metabolism, the quicker the food is processed in our body.

Skipping breakfast also poses dangers. Not only would we be starving our body, but without breakfast, our metabolism only slows down further and will store food consumed throughout the day, instead of burning it.

Chris Gregoriou - Personal Trainer from Joy Sponsor, Metro Body Fitness stops by The Hump Day Crew to ensure that we all had had breakfast. To find out about more tips on how to maintain a healthy diet to ensure the best for your body - download his tips here.

Billie Myers - kickin back with a cup of Tea & Sympathy

Coming across this amazing artist at the age of 12 has seared a vivid memory in my mind of the addicitvely amazing vocal style of the British born Billie Myers. The openly bi-sexual singer, now based in LA, is dawning up a new era - the release of her fourth album, "Tea and Sympathy." After the success of her 90's single, "Kiss The Rain," Myers has gone through a decade of change which has shone through with strength in her work.

After being dropped by her record label, Myers' fightback has come fighting back with a kickin' new album which has seen a evolution of vocal styles and showcases similiar subject matter to her previous work, with a modern spin.

Billie chats with Ginni from The Hump Day Crew revealed more interesting facts about the singer:
- she has spread a rumour involving Mel B in an uncomfortable position with tampons
- her proposal to "brunette-ifying," the world
- a proposed introduction to The Hump Day Crew if ever we were to interview Britney Speares
- chicken hypnotherapy

Australia Adopts Arj Barker

Comedian Arj Barker has appeared on several television comedy shows over the last decade. Most of his appearances are late-night shows such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Glass House. He has had his own Comedy Central Presents episode on two occasions in 2000 & 2006. He appeared on the Australian show, Thank God You're Here in 2006 and again in 2007 (the latter of which, he won).

Arj co-wrote The Marijuana-Logues, an off-Broadway show - the title is a parody of production The Vagina Monologues and also appeared in the HBO sitcom Flight of the Conchords, as Dave, Bret and Jemaine's friend, whom they meet after moving to New York.

This busy comedian took time out to tell the Hump Day Crew about his upcoming Fringe Festival show in Melbourne.
