The Sensational Varla Jean Merman

I have HAD MY FILL OF THE BIG TOP so would somebody RING MY BELL before I start to ACT INSANE and DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF CHEESE and what it would be like IF I ONLY HAD A SNATCH.
I want to warn you, this interview could be THE PERFORMANCE OF MY LIFE. I promise you it will be far more impressive than last week when you caught me FACE DOWN, ARSE UP in CHICAGO showing that GIRL WITH THE PEARL NECKLACE how my SINGING WEINER could do an ODE TO ENYA. That certainly led to LOVE ON THE ROCKS when I got home that night. I was as bad as the GYPSYS, TRAMPS AND THIEVES
Forgive me...I am digressing like a fresh model in stilettos on PROJECT RUNWAY...Allow me to introduce our next guest...
Hotter than a DISCO INFERNO but cuter than a WHITE RABBIT...let’s not TALK TOTHE GENITALS but use your HANDS and REACH OUT AND TOUCH...not UGLY BETTY but Varla Jean Merman.

Where will you find Varla Jean Merman? On stage, on television, on iTunes, on YouTube and in Kylie's closet helping herself to a Kylie outfit or two. Adz chats with Varla about her fun and serious sides as she "gets around" North America.

Ian Harvie - The World's ONLY FTM Trans Stand Up Comic

Ian Harvie has a very special claim to fame. He is the only Female-to-male transgender individual making a living as a stand up comic. The American got his big break when he teamed up with fellow comedian Margaret Cho, who took him under her wing as her support act for 3 years. Now he is standing in his own spotlight with plenty of transgender content to share with his audience. Ian is back in Melbourne for the second time for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with his show "Parts Sold Seperately". He joined the HDC in the studio on the morning of his opening night.

Kiss Hannah Gadsby Quick! She's Full of Jubes...literally!

Hannah Gadsby is something of an overnight success. And she owes it all to a friend who entered her in the 2006 Raw Comedy Competition, at the tender age of 28.

In her own dry, self-deprecating manner, which is typical of her stand up style, she says, “I’m from Tasmania, we’re slow there.” Since her win in 2006 she has become a regular on the Australian and international comedy scene, having now performed around the country, as well as in New York and Edinburgh. She’s currently touring Australia performing her latest show, Kiss Me Quick, I’m Full Of Jubes.

Hannah dropped by the JOY studios to talk about her journey so far, her upcoming show and with the Hump Day Crew's help....to get Full of Jubes. Click here to listen to the result.

Tom Ballard - Several Nights Only!

Ever since he played the role of Blitzen in a local amateur production of Rock'n'Roll Santa back in 1997 in his home town of Warrnambool, Tom Ballard's comedy career has been on a steady decline. Having overcome serious sex and chocolate milk addictions at 14, Ballard managed to become a three-time Class Clowns National Finalist and a RAW National Finalist by 2006.

On the strength of his RAW performance, Tom was offered work with national youth radio network, triple j, where he now presents the Saturday breakfast show with his silly friend, Alex Dyson.

Tom was one quarter of the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Comedy Zone, a showcase of the best up and coming talent in the country as selected by the festival. The Melbourne Age described him as "lanky".

Tom's mum thinks he's quite funny, but wishes he wouldn't swear quite as much as he does.

Let's see if he can contain his potty-mouth in his next show. It's Friday September 25th to Saturday October 11th as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival entitled Tom Ballard – Several Nights Only!. It will be on at the North Melbourne Town Hall at 8:00pm every night except Mondays.

Tom has decided that it will be okay and it would be nice if you or others were to come.

Click here to listen to Tom with the Hump Day Crew.

Check out Tom's website too. It's http://www.tomballard.com.au/

  1. He has self-published obscure Gothic children’s tales.
  2. He was born in Adelaide and grew up in Canberra.
  3. He maintains his interest in art through painting, drawing and hand-crafting books.
